Sexual Assault and Violence

I Have Been Sexually Assaulted…Now What?

If you have been sexually assaulted, you may not know how to feel, what to do, or even what your options are.

You are not alone.

Below are a few things to keep in mind.

First, if you are in immediate danger, or if you have been seriously injured, call 911.

Your safety is important. Are you in a safe place? In you do not feel safe, consider reaching out to someone you trust for support. You do not have to go through this alone.

Remember: What happened was not your fault. Something happened to you that you didn’t want to happen, and that is not okay.

If you can do so safely, call the Blue Water Safe Horizons 24-hour helpline at 810-985-5538, or contact our Crisis Text Line* at 810-824-7948. You will be connected with a trained staff member who will direct you to the appropriate local health facility that can care for survivors of sexual assault.

Blue Water Safe Horizons provides free and confidential counseling and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence.
