Services

Blue Water Safe Horizons offers shelter and support services to survivors of intimate partner domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse. Services offered by the agency include:

24-Hour Crisis Hotline

Blue Water Safe Horizons operates a free and confidential crisis hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Trained operators provide safety planning, crisis counseling, information and referral to other support services, such as shelter. The 24-Hour Crisis Hotline can be reached at 1-888-985-5538.

If texting is more convenient or a safer method of reaching out, we also have a crisis text line. If you are looking for information, seeking shelter, or just need someone to listen, a live, trained advocate is there. The Crisis Text Line* can be reached at 1-810-824-7948.

If you are in immediate danger, please call 911.

* Standard message and data rates may apply.

Carolyn’s Place Shelter

Carolyn’s Place is a 26-bed facility that offers time-limited emergency shelter and support services to: female survivors of intimate-partner domestic and sexual violence; their dependent children; and women impacted by elder abuse and exploitation. Alternative arrangements are made for male survivors as needed.

Adults who need emergency housing should first call the Crisis Hotline and speak with an advocate. The advocate will assess your situation.

At our shelter, residents share bedrooms, bathrooms, and common living spaces. We provide basic necessities such as food, clothing referrals, and personal care items. Residents are offered shelter-based education programs, and will receive assistance through individual advocacy, case management, and safety planning during their stay. Shelter residents may also participate in individual and group support.

Advocacy

Trained advocates offer survivors information about the different options available to them. Our outreach office can provide a secure location for you to have a confidential conversation with someone who can help. Our advocates will take the time to talk with you about your options and help you develop a plan that best fits your needs.

Advocates offer information, guidance, and support for deciding whether or not to report an assault to law enforcement. They also offer support and accompaniment with law enforcement; guidance and information about the criminal justice system; information about legal options, including how to obtain orders for protection (PPO); connection to community resources; and help creating a personalized safety plan.

Information and Referrals

Staff and volunteers at Blue Water Safe Horizon provide to survivors information and referrals regarding housing, legal assistance, counseling, temporary emergency housing, transportation, and health care.

Individual Crisis Advocacy and Support Groups

Blue Water Safe Horizons provides individual and support group crisis intervention services for children, teen and adult survivors of intimate-partner and sexual violence, and women impacted by elder abuse and exploitation. We also provide support for significant others. Crisis Intervention (crisis counseling) is provided by crisis advocates that are heavily trained in trauma-informed care.

Crisis Intervention Advocacy for Child Survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence

In 2017, Blue Water Safe Horizons began a special program designed specifically for child survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Specially trained advocates work with young survivors — both male and female — to help them heal from this childhood trauma. Our evidenced-based interventions strive to increase the child’s feelings of safety, while aiming to reduce their negative responses to the trauma.

Pet Shelter

Pets are an important part of any family and should be protected from abusers, too. While Carolyn’s Place normally has a special space for pets, it is currently closed due to renovations until further notice.
